Elementary

The questions get bigger.

How did the world become the way it is? What is too small to see? Why does a number pattern work? In Elementary, a question can lead to reading, calculation, model-making and a conversation that raises another question.

Ages 6–12

Hours 8:45 am to 3:00 pm

Two children explore colourful world map puzzles together on floor mats.

Seeing how subjects connect

Montessori’s Great Stories introduce broad themes about the universe, life and human achievement. At The Learning Pod, these themes provide starting points for looking more closely: into language and numbers, the natural world and the history of people.

Making and explaining an idea

Building a model invites close attention: what does each part represent, and how do the parts relate? The molecule models shown here are one example. Labels, drawings and written explanations help communicate what is being explored.

Developing skills through an investigation

An investigation can bring several skills together: reading to find information, writing to explain it, and using mathematics to compare or calculate. Montessori Elementary connects these skills with questions children are trying to answer.

Working with other people

A shared question also calls for listening, agreeing who will do what and checking an idea together. Explaining a different view and making room for someone else’s contribution are important parts of the learning.

Thinking about the next school

If you are considering a move to another school later, bring that into the conversation early. The child’s age, current learning and the receiving school’s expectations all matter.
